Basava Samithi 2007-2008 |
Dear all Sharanu,
The new committee has completed six months and I hope it is meeting your expectations.
Our snow trip, picnic and Sharana Sangamma's were a great success. Our number of attendance to the Sharana Sangama has increased and we wish this kind of enthusiasm will continue to increase in the future.
Your committee has prepared a big plan for the next six months and your involvement is essential to implement this plan. Some of the activities for this year are as follows:
1. Australia Day
2. Australia Cleanup day
3. New Zealand convention
4. Basava Jayanthi function
5. New structured syllabus in English to study Basava philosophy for adults and children
6. Basava Sadhana for Melbourne Chapter
Australia Day: We will be joining the Australia day parade on the 26th Jan 08. We will be proudly holding the Basava Samithi banner and will be wearing T shirts with the Basava Samiti slogan printed on them. The main purpose of this is to make the Australians aware of who we are and what we represent. Let us not miss this opportunity, please, all join the parade, without you we cannot make an event like this successful. The details will be sent to you soon.
Australia Cleanup Day: This will be in March 08 and we are in discussion with Kingston council to clean one of their parks. We need to show all that Basava Samithi is about caring and sharing.
New Zealand convention: This is on the 23rd of March; around 40 members from Australia including children are likely to attend this function. Our members will participate in the NZ cultural program. If you would like to participate, please contact one of the committee members. If you are planning to place an advertisement in the souvenir, please refer the attached document for details on the price. Please contact me for further details.
Some members are travelling around South Island first for a few days, and then will join some of us in Auckland to attend the convention. If you want to do the same, please talk to Ravi Nandi or Sunita Kore. The request is to make your own travel and accommodation bookings.
Basava Jayanthi function: Gadag Swamiji is planning to attend this function. We are planning to have this function on 5th April 08 and waiting for confirmation from Swamiji. As usual this will be a big event for us and your committee will contact you with further details.
New structured syllabus in English to study Basava philosophy for children: Our honourable trustee, Dr. Malipatil directed the new committee (at the recent AGM) to improve the way we teach Basava Philosophy to our children. Committee has accepted the challenge and has prepared the syllabus in English and has also prepared a format of study. This will be presented in the next Sharana Sangamma i.e. Feb 08. It starts with the very basics and moves towards a very high level. (Looking at the syllabus, I am thinking of enrolling into this and sitting for a test myself). Please don't forget to attend the next Sharana Sangamma.
Basava Sadhana: Basava Samithi requires its own hall or building. Some of our members have pledged $1000 each to make this happen. We need around $300,000 to purchase a land and build. This is a very big project and our initial plans are to contact various Mathas and donors for sponsorship. If you can assist in any way please contact any one of your committee members.
Please do not hesitate to contact either myself or any committee member for any queries/questions.
Looking forward to seeing you all.
Regards,
Ravi Shankar
