Basava Samithi
Australasia, Melbourne Chapter started in 1999 and it has grown in
number and strength since then. We were successful in organising a
Sharana Samskruthi Sammelana for the Asia Pacific Region, wherein
invitees including dignitaries from India, New Zealand, Sydney,
Canberra, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Melbourne attended this function.
Ilkal Swamiji kindly agreed to preside over the function. We also
released a Souvenir to mark this occasion.
Every year we organise
Sharana Sangama, Picnics and celebrate Basava Jayanthi. Sharana
Sangama is organised at Clayton Meeting Hall, Clayton and we meet
second Sunday of the month.
During the Sharana
Sangama, we conduct prayers, meditation, celebrate birthdays,
anniversaries, celebrate peoples’ achievements and most importantly,
all the attendees participate in a discourse on various topics
related to the Sharanas. Children are encouraged to participate and
contribute as much as possible too.
Picnics are normally
organised during the month of November and January. Members prepare
and share food, relax and participate in various sports activities.
The Basava Jayanthi
function is huge, and we celebrate it in a very big and meaningful
way. We seek the blessings of Swamijis who come all the way from
India to be amongst us. Members organise various cultural activities
to mark the occasion.
The committee’s motto is
to encourage interested parties to join the Samithi, and work
towards successfully spreading Basava philosophy to a wider
audience. We want to find out in what way we can adapt Basava’s
principles in our lives.
