Basava Jayanthi Celebrations 2005 |
Brisbane Basava Samithi came to existence at Brisbane on 18th june2005 with its inauguration by Dr P S Shankar, Director Gulburga Medical College.
Dr Shivanand Hebbandi, President welcomed the large gathering assembled at Mr. Chandrashekar Hiremath's residence.
The function was inaugurated by by Dr. & Mrs. Shankar by lighting a lamp.
Dr. Shankar spoke on the life and social reforms carried out by Basaveshwara.
He spoke about Basaveshwara's life and said that Basaveshwara was a free thinker who strived to establish casteless, classes egalitarian society.
Basaveshwara's ideas were revolutionary and he gave equal status to women and downtrodden and imported dignity to the labour.
There was recitation of Basava vachanas/songs by Nikila Tumkur, Hema Tumkur, Mohan Thite, Mr. & Mrs. Chandrasekar Hiremath, Shivaleela, Swathi Prasanna and Bhanu Subbu.
Secretary Mr. Chandrashekar Hiremath proposed a vote of thanks, followed by Prasada.
