Basava Jayanthi Celebrations 2005 |
New Zealand Chapter of BSOAA’s Basava Jayanthi on 23rd April was a
grand success. Our programme started from 8.30 AM and continued until 4.30 PM.
Sri Siddeshwar Swamiji who was Chief Guest had arrived at function around 1.15
PM straight from airport to the function hall.
Swamiji’s speech was very impressive. Swamiji is known for his simplicity, deep knowledge and explain so nicely. He spoke on the grand personality of Sri Basaveshwara, his contribution to the mankind. He took us from mundane life to the spiritual life by quoting examples of great sharanas and famous people in the history.
Highlights of the programme were:
- Three vachana reciting
- Speech oh Life of Basaveshwara and Basava Philosophy (English)
- Speech on Akkamahadevi (English & Kannada)
- 15th century famous Kannada poet Chamarasa ‘s “Mayadevi – Allama Prabhu Nrutya” from his work “Prabhulingaleele”.
- 15th century famous Sharana “ Nijaguna ShivayOgi” ‘s “Kogile muddu kogile’s swara vachana nrutya
(Nos 4 & 5 are great works of Kannada literature, were initially directed by Dr M M Kalburgi and continued to its great success)
Food was fabulous and surplus and peoples enjoyed carrying with them after having good lunch.
People were very much impressed by the way programme went on to its appreciation.
In the evening, from 6.30 to 8.00 PM, Sri Swamiji spoke at New Zealand Vedanta Education Society on “Jnana Yoga” . The members of the Basava Samithi met again at lunch time for Swamiji’s Shreevani for around one hour.
