We celebrated Basava Jayanti with a great deal of enthusiasm.
We had devotees from various locations speaking different languages.
Celebration began with Basava Pooja and Namavali pathana by Mrs.Suma Totagi
and Mrs. Kiran Sheelavantar.
Mrs. Gayatridevi Adavayyanamath, Mrs. Jayashree Badrinath, Mrs. Gouri Dhabade and
Master Manisagar Ganiger sang Vachanas melodiously.
Conveying the Basava Jayanti Message, Basavaraj explained the purpose and importance
of celebrating Basava Jayanti or Birthday of many other saints. His message in
brief was "Vachanas are not just to be sung, Vachanas are to be lived. Only then we can
experience the true essence of them. It is extremely important cultivate teachings of
Basavanna in our today’s life. Basavanna is not a religious leader.
He is a teacher of humanity. His teachings are universal and apply to every being in the world".
Later, Mrs. Gayatridevi gave a heart touching speech on "Maha manavata vaadi Basavanna"
('A great humanitarian Basavanna'). She explained about the values that Basavanna taught us to
form a meaningful society. Pure hearted devotion to god, Work is Worship, Sharing the food with
needy, equal respect for men and women, Intellectualism, Revaluation of human values in 12th century
and Shoonya Sampadane were the topics that she explained about. She also explained about
values of work expressed by Basavanna and his contemporaries.
Programme concluded with Maha Magalaarati "Jyoti belagutide..." and Anna Dasoha
(distribution of Prasadam). Books and Souvenirs of Convention were distributed to
gathered devotees.
The Adelaide BSOA community thanks Sydney Chapter and all Basava Samithi members for
encouraging and supporting us to celebrate Basava Jayanti and convey the teachings of
Basavanna to the wider community.
